What is Overcome?

The Overcome Clinic is an affordable, evidence-based resiliency program developed by Genevieve Yellen of Sundara Yoga Therapy. It has been researched in conjunction with Dr. Keri Heilman of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Dr. Stephen Porges of Indiana University and UNCSM. Dr. Porges is a leading researcher and founder of The Traumatic Stress Research Consortium and developer of the Polyvagal Theory.  Over the past two decades, thousands of people across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico have already found relief from anxiety, stress, and trauma with the guidance of skilled facilitators of the program.

 

Who Will Benefit:

This clinic is designed to help people who suffer from the anxiety of everyday life as well as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Common effects of anxiety that will be addressed in this clinic include:

  • panic attacks

  • difficulty concentrating

  • difficulty controlling worry 

  • excess anxiety and worry that is frequently out of proportion to the situation 

  • excessive sweating, palpitations, shortness of breath, and gastrointestinal issues

  • fatigue

  • irritability

  • muscle tension, shakiness, headaches

  • restlessness or feeling "on edge"

  • sleep disturbance--difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, unsatisfying sleep

Grounded in the latest research, the Overcome Clinic can help you lead a more self-aware life. Reducing stress can help reduce the risk of major illnesses that are related to inflammation. Reducing stress allows you to think before acting, allowing you the opportunity to make informed decisions about your life.

 

How We Will Work Together:

The Overcome Clinic works with you to naturally bring you to a place of inner calm through simple to use self-healing techniques. The skills and practices you learn are incredibly useful and profoundly freeing when combating the effects of anxiety.

What You Will Learn:

Anxiety can have an overriding effect on our systems which can leave us feeling stuck, shut down, and emotionally reactive. You will be introduced to a neuropsychological explanation of triggers, what is happening internally when triggered, and the process of reprogramming our responses to get rid of triggers. Additionally, there will be skills presented to to better cope with anxiety, providing a framework to lean into when symptoms become difficult to manage. Some of these skills include specific meditation, breathing, and yoga techniques to help break the psychological, biochemical and physical cycles that keep anxiety in your life. Over time, you will increase your ability to self-regulate and build resistance to stress. 

 

What You Can Expect:

Even though the Overcome Clinic is taught in a group setting, this is a personal experience; there are no group activities and you won’t be asked to speak publicly. Presentations are given with visual aids (manual reference, handouts, etc.), and all work is private (you are not asked to turn in the self-study work).  The utmost care and attention is given to accommodate those that are not comfortable in social situations. We are also open to allowing a spouse, friend, or family member to attend with you, if that support feels right for you.  

 

The registration fee includes a take-home manual with daily exercises and lifestyle suggestions as well as a guided meditations to practice within the comfort of your own home. The more you know about anxiety and how to overcome it, the more empowered you become to drive your own self-healing journey!
